Goodfellow & Co Men’s Big & Tall Field Jacket

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

We designed this field jacket for the guy who needs real versatility without the fuss. The 100% cotton canvas shell stands up to wind and light rain while the four-pocket front keeps your essentials within reach — phone, wallet, keys, and whatever else the day throws at you.

Our big and tall sizing runs true with extra room through the chest and shoulders, so layering a hoodie or flannel underneath actually works. The jacket falls just below the hip with a drawcord waist you can cinch when the temperature drops. We built it to be the grab-and-go layer that works whether you’re heading to the hardware store on Saturday or meeting friends after work.

Fabric & construction details

The Goodfellow & Co men’s big & tall field jacket starts with heavyweight cotton canvas that softens with every wash but keeps its shape season after season. We chose this fabric specifically because it breathes better than synthetic shells while still blocking wind effectively — you won’t overheat during an unexpectedly warm afternoon.

Double-stitched seams run through every stress point, from the shoulder yokes to the pocket edges. The full-length brass zipper sits behind a snap-button storm flap that adds another layer of protection when the weather turns. Reinforced elbow patches aren’t just for show — they extend the life of the jacket in the spots that see the most wear, especially if you’re leaning on counters or truck beds throughout the day.

Big & tall fit guide
Sizing & fit

Big & tall fit guide

Our big and tall sizing adds three inches to the body length compared to standard fits, so the jacket actually covers your belt line when you reach overhead or sit down. The shoulder seams sit where they should without pulling, and the sleeve length accounts for longer arms — no awkward gap between your cuff and your wrist.

We cut the chest and waist with extra room for comfort without going boxy. If you typically wear a 2XLT or 3XLT, order your usual size. The adjustable drawcord at the hem lets you dial in the fit depending on what you’re wearing underneath. For reference, our fit model is 6’3″ and 240 lbs wearing a 2XLT with a relaxed but not oversized silhouette.

Pockets & storage layout

Four front pockets give you dedicated space for different gear. The two lower hand pockets measure 7 inches deep with button flaps — large enough for a folded beanie, work gloves, or a small notebook. The two chest pockets sit high enough that you can access them easily even when wearing a backpack, and they’re sized perfectly for your phone and a pen.

Inside, a zippered chest pocket keeps your wallet or keys secure without adding bulk to the outside profile. All pocket openings are reinforced with bar-tack stitching to handle daily use without fraying. We skipped interior lining to keep the jacket lightweight and packable — it folds into itself through one of the hand pockets for travel.

Finally a field jacket that fits right
I’m 6’4″ and usually struggle with sleeve length, but this jacket nails it. The big and tall cut gives me room to move without looking like I’m wearing a tent. I’ve had it for three months and it’s holding up great through daily wear.

Perfect weight for unpredictable weather
I needed something between a hoodie and a winter coat, and this is exactly that. The cotton canvas blocks wind better than I expected but doesn’t make me sweat when the sun comes out. The pockets actually fit my stuff without sagging.

Great value for the quality
For under fifty bucks, I wasn’t expecting much, but the stitching and hardware are solid. The zipper glides smoothly and the buttons are metal, not plastic. My only complaint is I wish it came in more color options.

Runs true to size in big & tall
I ordered my usual 2XLT and it fits perfectly. The shoulder seams sit where they should, and the sleeves are long enough that they don’t ride up when I reach. This is now my go-to jacket for running errands or casual Friday at work.

Gets better with age
I’ve washed this jacket probably a dozen times now and it just keeps getting softer. The canvas has developed this lived-in look that I actually prefer to how it looked brand new. Still holding its shape and color after six months of regular use.

Solid everyday jacket with good storage
The four front pockets are legitimately useful — I can carry my phone, keys, wallet, and a small notebook without feeling bulky. The inside zip pocket is clutch for keeping my earbuds from getting tangled. Only downside is it’s not warm enough for deep winter without serious layering.

Good to know

Your questions about the Goodfellow & Co field jacket

The cotton canvas shell is water-resistant and will handle light rain or mist for short periods, but it’s not waterproof or fully seam-sealed. If you’re caught in a drizzle, the fabric will bead water initially, but sustained rain will eventually soak through. It’s designed more for wind protection and everyday durability than serious wet-weather use.

Big and tall sizing adds approximately three inches to the body length and extends the sleeve length by about an inch and a half compared to standard fits. The chest and shoulder measurements are also proportionally larger to accommodate broader frames. If you typically wear tall sizes in other brands, order your usual size — our fit runs true without vanity sizing.

Yes, the jacket is cut with enough room through the chest and shoulders to accommodate a lightweight or medium-weight hoodie underneath. We designed the armholes and sleeve width specifically for layering without restricting movement. A bulky heavyweight hoodie might feel tight, but most standard hoodies layer comfortably.

Cotton canvas can shrink slightly with the first wash, typically about one to two percent in length and width. We account for this in our sizing, so if you follow the care instructions and tumble dry on low, the jacket should maintain its original fit. Washing in hot water or using high heat in the dryer will cause more noticeable shrinkage.

Field jackets feature a longer body length that extends below the hip, multiple utility pockets, and a straighter cut through the torso. Bomber jackets typically have elastic waistbands, fewer pockets, and a cropped length that hits at the waist. This field jacket is designed for functionality and layering, while bombers prioritize a sleeker, more fitted silhouette.

No, this jacket is unlined and uninsulated to keep it lightweight and versatile across three seasons. The single-layer cotton canvas provides wind resistance and moderate warmth on its own, but you’ll want to layer underneath when temperatures drop below 50°F. The lack of lining also makes the jacket more packable for travel.

Yes, all four front pockets easily accommodate modern smartphones including larger models like the iPhone Pro Max or Galaxy Ultra. The chest pockets are specifically sized for phones with protective cases, and the button flaps keep them secure. The interior zip pocket works well for standard-sized phones if you prefer keeping them out of sight.
